SORDO joined the QS ImpACT Global Day of Action 2026 under the banner “Small Actions Today, Big Impact Tomorrow,” combining World Environment Day observance on 5 June with three days of youth-led action across Garowe. The campaign was tagged against SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Four pillars structured the three days: the launch of the Somali Young Planet Champions Forum and a Youth Dialogue to identify local climate solutions; the planting of drought-resistant seedlings, each assigned a named community caretaker; practical workshops on waste management, water saving and composting; and a Youth Climate Pledge Wall that gathered between 100 and 200 signed commitments to protect and care for Mother Earth.

Fifteen to twenty youth volunteers led the three days, equipping more than 50 young people with practical climate resilience skills and launching three youth-led initiatives in tree planting, waste management and climate education. Eighty-five per cent of participants said they plan to implement what they learned.

The campaign has since seeded a youth climate action network in Nugaal. Schools are now engaged on curriculum integration, and youth trainers are cascading climate education to over 200 additional young people annually. A “How to Replicate GDA Action” guide has been distributed to schools and households, with local caretakers assigned to every seedling planted — the mechanism that carries the campaign’s reach well beyond its original three days.
