Climate stress and conflict in Somalia are not separate problems. Competition over water points, grazing land and displacement routes is one of the most consistent drivers of local dispute. The UNDP-funded Youth4Climate Eco-Peacebuilders project puts young people at the centre of managing that intersection, treating climate adaptation and conflict prevention as a single skill set.

Thirty Youth Climate Peace Champions have been onboarded and certified across Garowe, Qardho and Gaalkacyo, and nine Youth-Led Climate Peace Councils have been established across Bari, Nugaal and Mudug. More than 500 young people have been engaged through digital advocacy and community dialogues on resource-related tension.

Three digital platforms are in active development to extend the project’s reach beyond its funding cycle: the EcoPeace Watch App for community reporting of resource disputes, a youth climate podcast, and the Youth4Climate Knowledge Portal. Each is designed to keep the councils connected and visible once direct project support ends.
