Somali Relief and Development Organization (SORDO) is a youth-led, non-profit humanitarian and development organization established in 2004 and officially registered with the Federal Government of Somalia and the relevant Federal Member States. SORDO is dedicated to empowering youth, women, and marginalized communities through inclusive, community-driven interventions. Operating across rural, urban, coastal, and displacement settings, our work combines traditional knowledge with innovative, modern solutions to build local capacity and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Central to our approach is the principle of “Creating Local Solutions to Local Challenges,” which guides our efforts to help communities address their own social, economic, and developmental issues.
SORDO has a strong track record in areas such as food security, climate resilience, youth employability, and social inclusion. Our programming includes drought recovery, agricultural support, digital literacy, sustainable fisheries, and entrepreneurship for displaced populations. Flagship initiatives such as the Youth Upskill Project, Somali Young Climate Action Champions, and clean energy microenterprise support for women demonstrate our commitment to holistic, genderresponsive development. Our strategic goal is to foster sustainable livelihoods and social cohesion, uphold human rights, and promote a culture of peace in pursuit of a society free from violence—particularly against women, children, and other vulnerable groups.
Over the past three years, SORDO has directly impacted more than 14,000 lives through programs promoting climate resilience, gender equality, food security, and youth empowerment. Together with our partners and local communities, we’ve delivered life-changing projects across Puntland and Somalia
in all contexts of intervention. Hence, to address the ethical challenges of operating environment, as not-for-profit organization,
