About SORDO
Founded in 2004, SORDO (Somali Relief and Development Organization) is a youth-led, non-profit and non-governmental national NGO headquartered in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia. For over two decades, SORDO has evolved from a community-based humanitarian organization into a credible national implementation partner operating across the humanitarian–development–peace nexus. The organization works with youth, women, persons with disabilities, IDPs, pastoralists, fishing communities, and other marginalized populations to strengthen resilience, expand livelihoods, and promote social cohesion in contexts shaped by conflict, displacement, and climate change. Recognized by government institutions, UN agencies, INGOs, and international donors as a trusted implementing partner, SORDO brings together deep community roots and a proven track record of accountable, effective programming.
Guided by the principle "Creating Local Solutions to Local Challenges," SORDO designs and delivers inclusive, community-centered, and climate-responsive interventions that address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development priorities. The organization's work spans climate action, youth and women's empowerment, biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarian assistance, and social inclusion — with a strong operational presence in Puntland and expanding engagement across Somalia's federal member states. Through close collaboration with communities, government, and development partners, SORDO remains committed to creating opportunity, building resilience, and upholding the dignity of every person it serves.
