SORDO has been engaged in the advocacy for the protection and the wellbeing of the IDPs since its establishment and assisted relevant government counterparts to improve the condition of IDPs in Puntland in collaboration with international partners. SORDO has been part of the Protection Monitoring Network (PMN) and Population Movement Tracking (PMT) national partners in Puntland from 2011 to 2012. Also under the protection cluster/sector, there has always been an intersection with some of our major projects of livelihoods such as the Finnish Kenya Embassy funded livelihoods for women IDPs in 2015. NCA funded Social Rehabilitation Project also had some key components related to Protection, GBV and empowerment. SORDO has also worked with Action Contre la Faim (ACF) a small protection project under SHF – funded ACF Project in Nugaal region from 2017 to 2018.
This project incorporated about 100 youth beneficiaries who successfully completed SORDO rehabilitation and skills training program in Nugaal region. Also in collaboration with Ministry of Women Development and Family Affairs (MOWDAFA) of Puntland in the areas of Child Protection and Gender Based Violence (GBV) interventions. These included; the implementation of the 16 Days Activism Against Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and Mainstreaming Gender in our programming in the field.
